Fluorescent Lamp Recycling

Why recycle fluorescent lamps?

It is Illegal for most firms to discard fluorescent lamps in the trash!  A fluorescent light tube in your dumpster may be a violation of the hazardous waste laws.  Voilation of these laws can result in large fines and criminal prosecution.  Fluorescent lamps contain a small quantity of mercury and become hazardous waste when they no longer work.  Mercury can pose a hazard to human health or the environment when improperly managed. Due to this concern, the federal EPA and state environmental services have developed policies on used fluorescent lamps that promote recycling, pollution prevention, and safe handling methods.

The Recycling Proccess:  The USA Lights Model 2000 Fluorescent and HID Lamp Processing Machine, used by American Lamp Recycling, is specifically designed and engineered to meet strict operating requirments.  The result is a totally self contained, continuous flow process for recycling of all types of fluorescent and HID lamps.  All lamp processing is completed, as required under USEPA and State  facility operating guidelines.

Fluorescent lamps, Compacts, U-Tubes, Circle & HID lamps enter the system through a negative air chamber where they implode releasing mercury vapor which is immediately captured and filtered through a continuous duty, muti-stage filtration system.  Lamp componets are subjected to air seperation, mechanically sized, and seperated by a sieving process. The entire recycling process is conducted under negitive pressure.  Mercury rich phosphors, are retorted to recover mercury values.  Aluminum, brass, and lamp glass, are processed into usable recycled products and marketed to commercial and industrial users.

In addition to accepting full-title to your lamps and indemnifying your company against future liability, a certificate of recycling is included with each invoice which fully documents the processing of each shipment.  ALR can asist you in the entire lamp management process, from packaging and storage to post recycling record keeping.  Let American Lamp Recycling take the confusion and liability out of your lamp disposal program.  Our cost effective, full-service approach, will help you ensure compliance with Federal and State requirements and significantly reduce your environmental liability.
